The Gibraltar Dog Gold Coins were produced by the Pobjoy Mint beginning in 1991 and running through
1997. They attract a lot of coin collectors and dog lovers with their vivid images.
A different breed of dog is depicted on the reverse of each year while the
obverse features the official portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The final issue in 1997 was the petite Yorkshire Terrier, which originated in
Yorkshire with miners breeding a new type of terrier. The past Royal Dog bullion
issues include the Royal Corgi (91), Cocker Spaniel (92), the Dachshund
(93), the Pekinese (94), Collie (95),
and the British Bulldog (96). The dog coins are struck of pure .9999 fine gold in 1/25, 1/10, 1/5,
1/2, and 1 ounce sizes.
